Point-of-Use Stock
There is always a need to hold some stock on the shop floor. This may be centrally located in a workshop or selectively on workbenches where it is in constant use. This can lead to very high levels of stock being distributed throughout a manufacturing site. If stock levels are too low, then stock-outs may occur and cause line stoppage. The temptation is to increase the levels or to monitor them more frequently. Estimating usage through back-flushing MRP systems can only give a close approximation of 'expected' levels and are dependent on accurate Bills of Materials. Point-of-Use Stock is an ideal application for Remote Stock Monitoring.
